Inverness Plans Patriotic Summer Celebration for America’s 250th Anniversary

Inverness, Citrus County – The city of Inverness is planning a patriotic summer celebration to honor America’s 250th anniversary, dubbed Summer 250. The event series, which begins June 1, will feature various activities, including patriotic banners, live music, fireworks, and limited-edition merchandise.

The celebration will officially kick off on June 1, when American flags and patriotic banners will line Main Street and downtown Inverness. The city’s Parks and Recreation Director, Woody Worley, dressed as Uncle Sam, presented the plans to the Inverness City Council, urging community members to get involved. “We want you. We want everybody out here,” Worley said. The events will include Market at the Depot, Small Town Saturday Nights, and Small Town Slam wrestling events.

The city’s Assistant City Manager, Aiden Marshall, described the event series as “more than just one celebration,” but rather a summer full of energy, patriotism, partnerships, and experiences for residents and visitors. If all approvals come through, the city will also host a military flyover above the annual July 3 celebration.
