Florida Man Crashes on I-75, Attempts to Steal Medical Helicopter

Riley Ferrer, 28, was driving northbound on I-75 in Hernando County shortly after midnight on Friday, June 19, when he lost control of his pickup truck and collided with another vehicle. The crash seriously injured two people, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Ferrer claimed he had seen the Antichrist before the crash. While speaking with investigators, he reportedly paced around the scene and failed to respond to questions. As fire rescue crews prepared the two people injured in the other vehicle for transport by a MedTrans Florida helicopter, Ferrer ran past emergency personnel and approached the aircraft after it landed on the interstate. He attempted to open the pilot’s door but was unsuccessful in his attempt to steal the helicopter. Ferrer was arrested and charged with three counts of resisting an officer without violence and one count of burglary of an occupied conveyance.

Ferrer was taken to Tampa General Hospital Brooksville for medical clearance, where he continued to resist efforts to escort him into the hospital and seat him in a chair. After receiving medical clearance, Ferrer was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center, where he refused to remove his jewelry, telling deputies, “You do it.” He was being held on a $3,000 bond for the resisting charges and without bond on the burglary charge, but has since been released on bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 14 at the Hernando County Courthouse.
