Florida AG lawsuit against roofing company leaves homeowners in limbo

It has been nearly seven months since the Florida Attorney General sued Jacksonville-based Florida Roof Specialists, alleging a scheme that violates the state’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. The lawsuit, filed on January 18, 2023, claims the company misled homeowners into paying for unnecessary roof repairs and replacements.

The lawsuit has left many homeowners in Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus counties wondering if they will receive refunds or compensation for work done by the company. According to the Attorney General’s office, Florida Roof Specialists targeted vulnerable homeowners, often using high-pressure sales tactics to sell them costly roof repairs and replacements. The company allegedly made false claims about the condition of the homeowners’ roofs and the need for urgent repairs.

Homeowners who have filed complaints against Florida Roof Specialists are still waiting to hear from the Attorney General’s office about the status of their cases. “We’re working diligently to resolve these complaints,” said a spokesperson for the Attorney General’s office. “We encourage homeowners who believe they’ve been victimized by Florida Roof Specialists to contact our office and file a complaint.”

Local residents can contact the Attorney General’s office at (850) 488-5800 or visit their website to file a complaint. More information about the lawsuit can be found on the Attorney General’s website.
