A discarded cigarette sparked a shed fire in Crystal River on Monday night, according to officials. The fire occurred at a residence on Southeast 5th Avenue, around 10:30 p.m.
Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was determined to be a discarded cigarette. The homeowner, whose name was not released, was treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital.
The fire was one of several incidents in Citrus County recently. Residents are reminded to properly dispose of cigarettes and other flammable materials to prevent similar incidents.
