Deputy Seriously Injured in Pursuit of Fleeing Suspect in Brooksville

A Hernando County deputy was seriously injured on May 9 while attempting to stop a fleeing suspect, 31-year-old Trevaun Hampton of Brooksville. According to an arrest affidavit from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, Hampton led law enforcement on a pursuit through city streets before being apprehended.

The incident began near the intersection of North Brooksville Avenue and East Purcell Road in Brooksville. Deputies say Hampton was driving recklessly and refused to stop, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, Hampton’s vehicle crashed, and he attempted to flee on foot. A deputy was seriously injured while trying to apprehend him. Hampton was taken into custody and faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, and reckless driving.

Hampton is being held at the Hernando County Detention Center. The deputy’s condition is not publicly known at this time. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
