Citrus County communities came together in a massive display of red, white, and blue this weekend, hosting expansive celebrations to mark the historic semiquincentennial – the 250th anniversary of the United States. The festivities kicked off on Friday night with mortars bursting into a colorful display over Lake Henderson in Inverness.
The city’s annual Patriotic Evening expanded into an all-day affair spanning Liberty Park and Wallace Brooks Park. The celebrations started at the Depot Pavilion with Small Town Slam Wrestling’s seven-match “Red, White & Bruised” event before transitioning to live music. Southern rock tribute band Nuthin’ Fancy performed a set of Lynyrd Skynyrd classics at Liberty Park, setting the stage for country headliner Hayden Coffman. During the national anthem, the Inverness crowd rose in unison. Among them were Crystal River residents Bill Hysell and Pam Anderson, who wore matching “Summer of 250” shirts. A towering American flag set the scene for unforgettable photos at the annual Patriotic Evening in Inverness.
