A man who pleaded guilty to killing 26-year-old Anthony Pivacek in a wrong-way DUI crash has been sentenced to eight years in prison, according to court records. Kevin Marshall was driving a Dodge SUV the wrong way on State Road 56 just east of Morris Bridge Road in July 2024 when he struck Pivacek’s Chevy pickup truck.
Marshall’s blood alcohol content measured 0.171, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, when the fatal crash occurred. The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the incident, which resulted in Marshall pleading guilty to DUI Manslaughter charges. After his prison sentence, Marshall will serve house arrest followed by probation and must pay $17,000 in restitution to Pivacek’s family.
For more than a year, Pivacek’s family traveled from Nashville to Dade City as the case moved through the courts. A roadside vigil remains near the crash site on State Road 56, serving as a memorial to the young victim’s life. The lengthy legal process has been difficult for the family as they sought justice for their loved one.
Marshall’s attorney, Justin Petredis, released a statement saying his client “is devastated by the pain he has caused another family” and “takes full responsibility for his actions.” The statement noted that Marshall is “a husband and father of five himself,” though the complete statement was not included in court records. The case highlights the ongoing dangers of impaired driving on Pasco County roads.
