A 37-year-old woman from Citrus County was sentenced to prison for attacking emergency responders. On January 15, 2026, Brittany Nicole Wilkins was arrested for assaulting two Citrus County Sheriff’s deputies and a Crystal River Fire Department paramedic.
According to court documents, Wilkins was being treated for a mental health issue when she became violent and attacked the responders. She was charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of battery on a medical emergency responder. Wilkins was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Wilkins’ arrest was a critical incident for the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office and the Crystal River Fire Department. The incident highlighted the dangers faced by emergency responders and the importance of providing them with proper training and equipment to handle violent situations.
