Springstead Girls Basketball Wins First District Title

On Friday night, the Springstead High School girls basketball team achieved a historic milestone by winning their first district championship. The Eagles defeated visiting Leesburg 49-38 in the District 5A-5 championship game. This victory marks a significant accomplishment for the team, which has seen steady success in recent seasons under the leadership of head coach Zach Anspach. Anspach noted that the team’s chemistry and balanced play were key factors in their success.

The Eagles were led by Addisson Osborne, who scored 16 points, and Michelle Ramirez-Hoyos, who added 12 points. Briana Coleman contributed eight points and seven rebounds. According to Anspach, the team’s defense played a crucial role in securing the win, holding Leesburg’s top player to under 20% shooting. The team’s semifinal win against Vanguard on Wednesday was also impressive, with Ramirez-Hoyos scoring 18 points and Osborne adding 17 points.

This achievement is particularly notable given the team’s history, with only a handful of winning seasons in their first four decades. Under Anspach’s guidance, the team has shown significant improvement, and this district championship is a testament to their hard work and dedication. The Springstead High School community is celebrating this milestone, marking a memorable year as the school observes its 50th anniversary.
