Jeannie Potter, 49, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after a jury found her guilty in December of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Potter was arrested Dec. 23, 2024, after Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Corrine Avenue in Spring Hill regarding a battery incident involving a crashed minivan.
When deputies arrived, they found a white minivan crashed into the garage and discovered the victim, who had crash-related injuries, along with Potter. The victim told deputies that Potter had arrived shortly before the incident despite a court order prohibiting her from entering the property. Potter pulled into the driveway, exited her vehicle and ripped security cameras from the outside of the home, according to the sheriff’s office. Assistant State Attorneys Kasey Whitson and Heather Errede prosecuted the case.
In separate incidents, a Brooksville woman died of injuries following a car crash early Thursday morning, Jan. 22, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. At about 2 a.m., a Ford Taurus driven by a 39-year-old Brooksville woman was traveling east on Mondon Hill Road near Jasmine Drive when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle departed the roadway and, while rotating, struck a tree, causing fatal injuries.
Additionally, Hernando County Fire Rescue crews responded at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 23 to a fire in the 800 block of Kennedy Boulevard in Brooksville. Firefighters found a large shed fully engulfed in flames, along with two vehicles and a camper on fire. The blaze destroyed the shed and damaged three vehicles, but crews saved a home and two other structures that sustained minor damage. No injuries were reported, and the fire remains under investigation.
