Shelter Kennel Cooling Raises Concerns in Citrus County

Concerns are being raised about the cooling system at the Citrus County Animal Shelter in Inverness. According to shelter staff, the kennels have been experiencing issues with their cooling system, which has led to concerns about the health and well-being of the animals housed there.

The issues with the cooling system began on Monday night, around 10:30 p.m., when staff noticed that the temperature in some of the kennels was higher than usual. The shelter’s maintenance team was notified, and they worked to repair the system as quickly as possible. However, the repairs took several hours to complete, and some kennels were still experiencing issues on Tuesday morning.

Citrus County Animal Shelter Manager, Karen R. Williams, stated that the shelter is taking steps to ensure the health and safety of the animals, including providing extra water and misting the kennels to help keep the animals cool. The shelter is also working with a contractor to install a new cooling system, which is expected to be completed by the end of the week.

The Citrus County Animal Shelter is located at 3100 W. State Road 44, Inverness, FL 34451. The shelter is open to the public for adoptions and visits from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
