Sharks Softball Cruises Past Central Bears 17-0 Before Prom

Brooksville, FL – The Nature Coast Tech Sharks softball team defeated the Central Bears 17-0 in four innings at the Bears’ Den on Friday night, March 22. The Sharks, led by Head Coach Jug Olmstead, finished strong before heading into break for prom, which was set to take place on Saturday, March 23.

The Sharks got off to a strong start with a three-run inning in the top of the first, thanks to a Bears’ error and several stolen bases. Senior Athena Brown got the scoring started when she stole home early in the action. Junior Pitcher Kam Ross came in and did a real good job in relief of Junior Izzy Miller on the mound, adding a pair of runs and two RBIs. The Sharks then exploded in the second stanza with seven scores to blow the game wide open. A bunt by Freshman Kaprice Licht ran fellow Freshman Addisyn Evans home before a short single by Junior Miranda Wiemer advanced Brown across the plate.

Coach Olmstead expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, saying, “We did some good things. We executed small ball real well and bases pretty good. Really, we were concentrating on finishing off this first part before we go on break. Tomorrow is prom. So, it was a distraction. Really happy where we are at 6-3 in a tough first half of the schedule, but things are looking promising, [getting] back to where we were a few years ago.”

The Sharks’ win brings their record to 6-3, while the Bears fall to 3-6. The team will take a break for prom and resume play after the spring formal.
