A multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 in Citrus County Friday night left a 74-year-old Crystal River woman dead and several others injured after a pickup truck driver failed to stop for traffic and fled the scene on foot, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. as traffic was stopped at a red light at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Norvell Bryant Highway.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a GMC pickup truck driver ran a red light and collided with multiple vehicles, causing the fatality. The driver of the pickup truck fled on foot and remains at large. The 74-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Several others were transported to local hospitals with various injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation and is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect.
