The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce named Sanda Bassett as its new Board Chairwoman during their monthly breakfast meeting on the final Wednesday of January in Brooksville. Outgoing Board Chair Nick Holmes officially passed the gavel to Bassett, who will lead the organization through 2026 with a focus on growth, engagement and showcasing what she called the chamber’s “incredible value” to the community.
Bassett outlined her vision for the chamber’s future direction, emphasizing three key areas. “We are going to focus on expansion, engagement, and impact. First, we will be focused on dedicating more chamber connection, one that welcomes new businesses and helps current members feel more supported,” she said during the gathering, which marked the chamber’s first monthly meeting of the year.
Holmes reflected on his tenure as board chair during what he called a “bittersweet” final meeting in the leadership role. He discussed his accomplishments over the previous 365 days, noting how every chair has left their “thumb print” in different ways while honoring the past and building for the future. Holmes emphasized that his leadership focused on overhauling operational and “foundational aspects” behind the scenes to “shape this chamber into something that can last and be sustainable for years to come.”
The leadership transition comes during a significant milestone year for the organization, as 2025 marks the centennial anniversary of the chamber’s founding. “The chairmanship to me wasn’t about a title. Leadership is never about a title,” Holmes said. “It is about stewardship. It is about protecting what others built before you and leaving it ready for whatever comes next.” The meeting also included recognition of various chamber committee members who served in leadership roles throughout the previous year.
Last year’s Chamber Pillar Committee Chairs included James Morris and Buddy Selph leading Advocacy, Lindsey Hack and Amy Anderson overseeing Training, Nick Holmes heading Networking, and Christie Williams managing Marketing. For 2025, the chamber announced new Program Chairs with Scott Herring taking on Leadership Hernando and Deb Weaver serving as Ambassador. The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce continues to serve businesses throughout the region as it enters its second century of operation.
