Rotary, city partner to build Citrus County’s first inclusive playground

The Rotary Club of Inverness and the City of Inverness are partnering to build Citrus County’s first all-inclusive neighborhood playground at Bryant Park, a two-acre tract located on Tuttle Street in the Inverness Heights neighborhood. The project, which aims to provide an equal chance to play for every child, is expected to transform the quiet mornings at Bryant Park into a hub of children’s laughter and family gatherings.

The park, which is ideally situated to serve families living in nearby homes as well as students and adults at area schools, including Withlacoochee Technical College, Citrus High School, and Inverness Primary School, will feature a new inclusive playground. HCA Florida Citrus Hospital and a Key Training Center group home are also within walking distance. According to John Murphy, Rotary Board of Directors member, “At the Rotary Club of Inverness, we believe in the power of play for all. It’s not just about swings and slides – it’s about helping every child develop confidence, skills, and friendships through play. Every family deserves access to a safe and fun environment for their children to grow and learn.”

The park has seen renewed life through Rotary-led upgrades, including a new sign at the gateway entrance, covered picnic areas, fresh landscaping, and a post-rail fence that replaced a dilapidated metal barrier. The inclusive playground project goes beyond mere civic beautification efforts, focusing on accessibility and equal opportunities for children of all abilities.

The collaboration between the Rotary Club of Inverness and the City of Inverness is a significant step towards creating a more inclusive community. The project is expected to be completed soon, providing a new recreational space for families and children in Citrus County.
