Residents Oppose Proposed Commercial Development in Kenton Road Area

WESLEY CHAPEL, Pasco County – The proposed commercial development near Kenton and Elam roads took center stage at a recent Pasco County Planning Commission meeting, with residents voicing opposition to the project on Monday night, claiming it doesn’t fit the definition of a community hub.

The meeting, which took place on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 3:00 PM, at the Pasco County Planning Commission, 8731 Citrus Cove Drive, New Port Richey, drew a large crowd of concerned residents. They argued that the development, which is part of the Connected City initiative, would bring too much traffic and commercial activity to the area, disrupting the quiet, residential neighborhood.

The proposed development, which includes a mix of retail, office, and restaurant space, is expected to be a major addition to the area. However, residents claim that it will not provide the community benefits that were promised, and will instead lead to increased traffic, noise, and pollution.

Residents also expressed concerns about the potential impact on local schools and emergency services. They are seeking a more thorough review of the project’s potential effects on the community and are calling for changes to the development plan.

The Pasco County Planning Commission will continue to review the proposal and make a decision in the coming weeks. Residents are encouraged to attend future meetings and provide input on the project.
