Python Hunt Documentary Featuring Local Guide Toby Benoit Premieres at Brooksville Theater February 28

A documentary featuring local guide and hunter Toby Benoit will premiere at the Beacon Theater in Brooksville on Saturday, February 28th at 6:00 PM. The Python Hunt offers a pre-release screening with only 100 tickets available at 12961 Cortez Boulevard, making it a one-time opportunity before the film’s wider theatrical release.

The documentary follows Benoit and his team during Florida’s annual 10-day python hunt as they search for invasive Burmese pythons in the Everglades. Benoit, who writes about his adventures in the Hernando Sun and has published several books, serves as a central character in the film. The production was backed by Artists Equity, the company owned by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Director Xander Robin will join Benoit at the screening for a question-and-answer session following the film. The documentary captures the challenges hunters face as the python hunt has grown in popularity, making the invasive snakes increasingly difficult to locate due to the large number of participants. Pythons have become spooked by the hordes of hunters participating in the state-sponsored removal program.

The screening represents a unique opportunity for local residents to see their community member featured in a major documentary production. Tickets can be purchased through the Hernando Sun events calendar or by visiting the newspaper’s website. Those who miss this exclusive showing will need to wait for the film’s general theatrical release.
