The Pasco County Museum of History, Art, and Science, located at 4455 74th St, New Port Richey, Pasco County, Florida, is facing a pressing issue as it runs out of space to store its vast collection of irreplaceable artifacts. According to Executive Director, Leslie H. Smith, “We are in a bit of a crisis mode.” The museum is currently working with the Pasco County Board of Commissioners to find a solution. The Pasco County Board of Commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the Pasco County Administration Building, 2nd Floor, 7535 74th St, New Port Richey.
The museum’s collection includes artifacts from the Tocobaga Indian tribe, early settlers, and the county’s citrus and agriculture industries. Some of the notable artifacts include a Tocobaga Indian canoe, a collection of citrus farming equipment, and a historic schoolhouse. The museum also features a collection of art and science exhibits, including a planetarium and a butterfly garden.
The search for a new location is underway, with officials considering various options, including a new building or a renovated existing facility. The museum is seeking a location that will provide adequate storage and display space for its collection, as well as easy accessibility for visitors.
