The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce welcomed Onyx Beauty Salon to Spring Hill with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. Owner Steven Camacho received a plaque celebrating his salon’s Chamber membership from Amy Baldwin, along with a certificate from Congressional Aide Ana Segovia recognizing his entrepreneurship.
Camacho’s business has been open to the public for roughly three months after a seven-month renovation process that began in summer 2025. The stylist, who started barbering with his father before transitioning to cosmetology work, said his passion for hair care drove him to create his own vision. “I care for my clients. I care for the integrity of their hair,” Camacho said. “I am very creative with hair and I love what I do. My creative mind just wants to go bigger and bigger in service.”
The salon renovation proved challenging, requiring permits, decor planning, and payment system installation. Camacho completed finishing touches two weeks before the ribbon cutting. “It was a huge process. It was not the smoothest of sailing through but, honestly, it was all worth it,” he said.
Artist Ezekiel from Ezekiel’s Photography contributed significantly to the salon’s design, painting murals and creating a rock-like accent wall. The cave-inspired design reflects the salon’s biblical namesake. “The name Onyx is kind of like a stone that is actually a biblical stone that was used by the Hebrew people. It is like a black stone,” Ezekiel explained. The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce continues supporting new businesses throughout the region with similar ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
