One Killed, Another Seriously Injured in High-Speed Crash on Beagle Road

A Hudson man was killed Monday afternoon, April 15, 2024, after losing control of his vehicle while traveling at a high rate of speed on Beagle Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. while the 37-year-old driver was operating a Saturn sedan eastbound just east of Orwell Road.

The vehicle left the roadway and entered a wooded area, causing fatal injuries to the driver, identified as John Smith, and serious injuries to a 35-year-old unrestrained passenger, Jane Doe. Both occupants were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports indicate that speed was a contributing factor. The road was closed for several hours while troopers collected evidence and reconstructed the scene.

Residents in Hudson and surrounding areas, including Brooksville and Spring Hill, are reminded to exercise caution while driving on local roads. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol continue to work together to reduce traffic-related incidents in the area.
