The Nature Coast Tech Sharks’ dream season came to an end Wednesday night at the Shark Tank in Brooksville, falling 3-0 to the Satellite Scorpions in the Class 4A regional semifinal. The loss prevented the Sharks (20-2-2) from advancing to their first-ever Elite 8 appearance after posting just their second defeat of the season.
Satellite junior Avery Parchinski broke the scoreless tie 16 minutes into the first half, giving the Scorpions (13-5-1) the early advantage. The visiting team sealed the victory in the second half when junior Julia Rozycki scored twice within four minutes of each other, putting the game out of reach for the Columbia Blue.
“Julia Rozycki, she is playing up front for us,” Satellite Head Coach Ryan Weldon said. “She holds the ball well and obviously shoots well. That is two games in a row that she scored twice. She really started coming on strong toward the end of the season. She is one of our leading goal scorers, a nice, tough, junior player.” Weldon credited his team’s preparation, saying they watched significant video of the 20-win Sharks before executing their game plan successfully.
Despite the disappointing finish, Sharks Head Coach Amy Mainella remained positive about her team’s historic season. “Amazing season, right? That was our second loss all season,” Coach Mainella said. “Got to look at the positives. It was a great season for us. It stinks that we don’t make it to the next round, and it would have been the first time that we would have made it through to the Elite 8. Really can’t say much else if they leave it all on the field, right?”
The Sharks fought valiantly throughout the match, with goalkeeper Kennedy Rasmussen making several key saves to keep her team competitive. However, the Scorpions’ speed and tactical approach ultimately proved too much for the Brooksville-based squad to overcome in their home venue.
