The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute will host MarineQuest 2026 on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 100 Eighth Ave. SE in St. Petersburg. The free annual event allows the public to explore laboratories, research vessels and scientific collections while meeting staff working to conserve Florida’s fish and wildlife.
MarineQuest features interactive exhibits, behind-the-scenes tours and family-friendly activities. Event parking is available at the SouthCore Parking Garage at 101 First Ave. S., with a free shuttle to the entrance. The event is held in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Science Festival. Meanwhile, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Southwest District is accepting nominations for its Environmental Stewardship Achievement Award through Friday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. The award recognizes businesses, organizations and local governments demonstrating outstanding commitment to protecting Florida’s natural resources.
Eligible nominees in Citrus, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties must showcase proactive, innovative and measurable achievements exceeding regulatory requirements. Categories include reducing environmental impacts, conserving resources, enhancing ecosystems and remediating environmental impacts. Additional consideration will be given to efforts fostering environmental stewardship culture, promoting continuous improvement, incorporating environmental education and demonstrating innovation. Optional supporting materials up to 10 pages may be emailed with nominations.
