Local News Roundup: SBA Aid for Cold Weather-Affected Businesses and Community Events

The Small Business Administration (SBA) is offering disaster aid to businesses affected by the recent cold weather in Pasco County. This assistance is available to help businesses recover from the economic impacts of the severe weather conditions.

In other local news, the GFWC Lutz-Land O’ Lakes Woman’s Club recently held its annual flea market, which drew strong community support. The event, fueled by donations from local residents, raised funds for various community projects, including programs benefiting local schools, libraries, veterans, homeless outreach, domestic violence shelters, and other causes. Becky Jenkins, the honorary “Guv’na” of Lutz, helped kick off the sale. The club also celebrated its 66th anniversary on March 4 at Chili’s Grill & Bar.

Additionally, Alexandra Romano, a junior at Land O’ Lakes High School, has been nominated to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in June at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Romano’s interest in medicine was shaped by her personal experience with severe childhood idiopathic scoliosis. She is enrolled in the school’s International Baccalaureate program and is a member of several honor societies.

Some of the community projects that will be supported by the funds raised at the flea market include:

  1. Programs benefiting local schools
  2. Programs benefiting local libraries
  3. Support for veterans
  4. Homeless outreach
  5. Domestic violence shelters
