Local High School Baseball Teams See Mixed Results

The Chiefland Indians baseball team split a pair of non-conference matchups last week, falling to Union County before rebounding with a dominant shutout win over Oak Hall. On February 17, Chiefland opened the stretch with a 13-1 road loss to Union County in Lake Butler. The Indians struck first with a run in the opening inning but were unable to keep pace as Union County responded with 11 runs over the next three frames. Chiefland finished with two hits and committed four errors in the contest.

The Indians bounced back in strong fashion on February 19, rolling to a 10-0 victory at Oak Hall in Gainesville. Chiefland’s offense came alive early, plating one run in the first inning and adding two runs in both the second and third. The Indians broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning and held Oak Hall hitless to secure the shutout. Chiefland totaled seven hits and played error-free defense.

In other local baseball news, the Cedar Key Sharks baseball team endured a challenging week, dropping a pair of non-conference home games to West Port and Countryside Christian. On February 17, the Sharks opened the stretch with a 33-1 loss to West Port, scoring its lone run in the second inning. West Port used a high-powered offensive performance, including an 18-run second inning, to pull away early. Cedar Key returned to the field on February 19 but again ran into a strong opponent, falling 16-0 to Countryside Christian.

The Bronson Eagles baseball team also fell in a pair of games, one on the road and one at home, but specific details of those games were not provided.
