Local Events in Citrus County: Women’s History Month, Cemetery Clean-up, and Butterfly Seminar

Citrus County residents have several opportunities to engage with their community this March. The Citrus County Library system is celebrating Women’s History Month with a program titled “Trailblazers & Visionaries,” which will be held on Tuesday, March 24, at 3 p.m. at the Coastal Region Library in Crystal River. This program aims to honor the legacies of pioneering women across various fields such as science, art, and library science.

In addition to the library event, the Daughters of the American Revolution Fort Cooper Chapter is organizing a Historic Cemetery Clean-up Day at the Magnolia Historic Cemetery on State Road 44, just east of County Road 491, on Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate in activities including weed eating, cleaning around headstones, litter pickup, and light landscaping. Supplies and trash bags will be provided, and participants can bring their own gloves and gardening tools. Refreshments will be available, and community service hours can be earned.

The UF/IFAS Citrus County Master Gardener Volunteers will host a Plant Seminar in March, focusing on the needs of butterflies and how to plan a butterfly garden. The seminar will cover requirements for creating a butterfly-friendly garden, including size, cost, and essential elements. For more information on this and other upcoming programs, residents can visit the online calendar at attend.citruslibraries.org/events or call their local library branch. They can also follow @CitrusLibraries on Facebook and Instagram for updates.

Residents interested in learning more about these events can find additional information by contacting the organizers directly. For the cemetery clean-up, individuals can reach out to Linda Powell at [email protected] or 405-640-4215.
