Inverness Watches State E-Bike Push as Former Lecanto Star Stranded in Iran

The city of Inverness is watching a push from the state to promote e-bikes, but a different story has caught the attention of locals – that of a former Lecanto basketball star stranded in Iran.

War has stranded former Lecanto basketball star, 25-year-old Alec Gerhardt, in Iran since the conflict began. Gerhardt was in Iran for a basketball tournament when the war broke out, and he has been unable to return home to Citrus County. “It’s just really tough right now,” Gerhardt said in a phone interview with the Citrus County Chronicle. “I’m trying to stay positive and focus on getting back home safely.” Gerhardt’s family is working with the US Department of State to try and secure his safe return.

In other news, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is promoting e-bikes as a sustainable transportation option, and Inverness is considering how to implement e-bike infrastructure. The city has received a grant to study the feasibility of e-bike lanes and charging stations. “We’re excited to explore the possibility of e-bikes in Inverness,” said Inverness Mayor, Rickey” “ Dennis. The city plans to hold public meetings to gather input on the proposal.
