Inverness Man Dies After Vehicle Plunges From Overpass Onto I-75 in Wildwood

A 27-year-old Inverness man died Friday morning when his Honda Accord left County Road 462 and plunged onto Interstate 75 in Wildwood, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The early-morning crash occurred when the driver lost control while traveling eastbound on the overpass for reasons not yet determined by investigators.

The vehicle fell from the overpass onto I-75 below, killing the Inverness driver instantly. A second driver on the interstate was injured when debris from the falling vehicle struck their car, though the extent of those injuries was not immediately released by authorities.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, which closed portions of both County Road 462 and Interstate 75 during the morning commute. Traffic was diverted around the crash scene while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident.
