Inverness Man Arrested for Neglecting Dozens of Animals, Damaging Bar

A 59-year-old Inverness man was arrested Monday night after Citrus County deputies found dozens of dead animals at his Floral City property and evidence of gunfire damage at a local bar.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of animal neglect at 15950 W. State Road 44, Inverness, around 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, they found approximately 80 dead animals, including dogs, cats, and horses, on the property. The owner, Jeffrey Lynn Griffis, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal neglect.

In a separate incident, deputies also found evidence of gunfire damage at the Homosassa River Tavern, located at 9480 W. State Road 44, Homosassa. No one was injured in the incident, but multiple bullets were found to have struck the building.

Griffis was also charged with criminal mischief for the damage to the bar. He was booked into the Citrus County Detention Center and held on $10,000 bond.
