The Citrus County Historical Society has unveiled a new exhibit, “Florida Foodways,” at the Citrus County Historical Society Museum, located at 3215 E. State Road 44, Inverness, on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 3:00 PM.

The exhibit explores the diverse culinary heritage of Florida, showcasing the state’s rich food traditions and cultural influences. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, and free for children under 6 years old. The exhibit was curated by local food historian, Dr. Jane Smith, who spent months researching and collecting artifacts and stories about Florida’s food culture.

“Florida Foodways” features a collection of artifacts, photographs, and oral histories that highlight the state’s food traditions, from Native American cuisine to modern-day fusion restaurants. The exhibit includes a display of traditional Florida cooking techniques, such as smoking and curing, as well as a collection of vintage kitchen appliances and utensils.

Visitors can also enjoy a sampling of traditional Florida dishes, such as key lime pie, conch fritters, and Cuban sandwiches. The exhibit is sponsored by the Citrus County Historical Society and the Florida Humanities Council.
