Hernando High School and Brooksville Elementary School will close Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, due to a planned rolling power outage scheduled by Duke Energy affecting both campuses. The Hernando County School District announced the closure decision to ensure student and staff safety during the utility work.
All other schools in the district will remain open and operate on normal schedules Monday. The power outage is part of Duke Energy’s scheduled maintenance work that will impact electrical service to the two Brooksville-area schools.
The district has not announced whether the schools will reopen Tuesday or provided details about makeup days for missed instruction. Parents and students should monitor official district communications for updates about when normal operations will resume at both affected campuses.
