Hernando High Flag Football Team Shines at Bucs’ Invitational

The Hernando High flag football team recently participated in the She is Football Weekend Flag Football Invitational at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ AdventHealth Training Center. The Leopards, who earned the opportunity to play at the center last year by advancing to the Final Four, finished the weekend with a 2-1 record.

On Friday, Hernando suffered its first loss of the season, 37-12 against Lennard. However, the team rallied on Saturday to beat Apopka 32-0 and Steinbrenner 25-7. Earlier in the week, Hernando (5-1) knocked off Springstead 25-18 on Wednesday, March 4. Carlie Grant completed 13 of 20 passes for 197 yards, tossing four touchdowns. Kenderlyn Hart had five receptions for 69 yards and Alexis Sway also hauled in five passes for 46 yards.

In other local flag football news, Weeki Wachee improved to 5-0 overall, starting last week with a 33-0 shutout of Wesley Chapel on Monday, March 2. Two days later the Hornets edged host Nature Coast 14-13. Karly Pasmore completed 28 of 44 passes for 200 yards with a touchdown thrown to Milana Baltyk. Allie Velez also threw a touchdown to Baltyk, who had seven receptions for 60 yards. Velez caught seven passes for 41 yards and had an interception on defense.

Crystal River, Central, and Nature Coast also saw action in recent flag football games. Weeki Wachee topped Crystal River 37-0 last Friday, with Madelyn DePetrillo connecting on 19 of 34 passes for 184 yards with two touchdowns. On Thursday, March 5, Nature Coast evened its record at 3-3 with 39-12 win over Anclote. Central also improved to 3-3 with a pair of wins, including a 12-7 triumph over Anclote on Tuesday, March 3, and a 42-0 pounding of Hudson the next day.
