Hernando Deputy, Weeki Wachee Driver Hospitalized After U.S. 41 Collision

A Hernando County sheriff’s deputy and a Weeki Wachee driver were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following a collision on U.S. 41 near Grand Entrada Boulevard on January 31. The crash occurred at 10:40 a.m. when the deputy’s patrol car overturned several times after striking a Nissan Rogue that had entered the highway.

The 28-year-old deputy was traveling south on U.S. 41 north of Grand Entrada Boulevard, overtaking a vehicle to conduct a traffic stop on a speeding motorist. At the same time, a 69-year-old Weeki Wachee man driving a Nissan Rogue was traveling east on Grand Entrada Boulevard. The Rogue crossed the highway intersection and entered the path of the deputy’s vehicle, resulting in the collision.

Following the impact, the deputy’s patrol car overturned multiple times while the Nissan Rogue rotated and came to rest in the travel lanes of U.S. 41. Both drivers sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office provided photos of the crash scene showing the extensive damage to both vehicles.

The collision highlights ongoing safety concerns along the busy U.S. 41 corridor, which serves as a major north-south route through Hernando County. The intersection with Grand Entrada Boulevard has been the site of previous traffic incidents due to the high volume of vehicles crossing the highway. The sheriff’s office has not released additional details about the investigation or the original traffic violation that prompted the deputy’s pursuit.
