On January 15, 2026, the Hernando County Government received reports of a scammer posing as a water inspector, claiming to be from the Hernando County Health Department or a similar organization. The scammer demands payment for a fake water inspection, often using high-pressure tactics to convince homeowners to pay immediately. The scam has been reported in multiple locations, including Brooksville, Spring Hill, and Dade City.
The Hernando County Government urges residents to be cautious and verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a water inspector. Legitimate water inspectors will provide a written notice and identification before conducting an inspection. Residents can contact the Hernando County Health Department at (352) 544-8440 to verify the authenticity of a water inspector.
