Florida House Unanimously Backs Dissolution of Citrus County Hospital Board

The Florida House of Representatives unanimously approved legislation on Wednesday, February 12, 2026, requiring the Citrus County Hospital Board to dissolve by October 1, 2026. The bill, HB 4043, was presented by State Rep. JJ Grow, R–Inverness, and passed with a vote of 113-0, with four members not voting. The legislation requires the hospital board to adopt a formal dissolution plan by September 30, 2026, settle all outstanding obligations and indebtedness, and outline how any remaining assets will be distributed.

The dissolution of the hospital board will transfer all assets to the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners. According to Rep. Grow, the board has accomplished its goals, including stabilizing the situation and finalizing a settlement with the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). Grow stated that there is no reason to continue the board’s operations, which cost around $300,000 annually. The Citrus County Community Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit established to manage proceeds from the lease of hospital assets, will also be involved in the distribution of remaining assets.
