FDOT projects bring road closures to Citrus County

Motorists across Citrus County will encounter road closures this week as the Florida Department of Transportation continues work on several projects totaling tens of millions of dollars in roadway improvements. The projects include a long-running U.S. 19 widening project in Crystal River and safety upgrades along State Road 44 in Inverness.

The U.S. 19 widening project in Crystal River, which began in July 2018 and cost $53.8 million, will have night closures from Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and day closures from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., between West Jump Court and Fort Island Trail. The seven-year project widened 4.7 miles of U.S. 19 to four lanes and includes a shared-use path, sidewalks, and stormwater ponds.

Additionally, the State Road 44 improvements in Inverness, being performed by Cone & Graham Inc., will have night closures from Sunday through Thursday, 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., between Pleasant Grove Road and Montgomery Avenue. The project aims to improve operational and safety conditions along the corridor.

Several other road projects are in the design phase and expected to move into construction in the coming years. For more information on current and future projects, visit the FDOT website or contact the Citrus County Chronicle for updates.
