As spring approaches, bringing warmer days and longer evenings, Citrus County is preparing for an influx of visitors from up north. The Wine Shop in Crystal River has seen an increase in customers, with Valentine’s weekend being especially busy, reaching full capacity. This uptick in business is a welcome change after two years of recovery and rebuilding.
The 2023 vintage in Napa Valley and Sonoma County is shaping up to be exceptional, with a long, moderate growing season allowing grapes to develop slowly and evenly. This resulted in wines with excellent balance, vibrant aromatics, refined tannins, and outstanding structure. In Napa Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon shows remarkable depth, purity of fruit, and elegance. Sonoma County wines display beautiful freshness and expressive varietal character, especially in Pinot Noir and red blends.
Some notable wines from the 2023 vintage include Westhoff Pioneers Sonoma County Red Blend 2023, priced at $29.99 and rated 91 points. This smooth and approachable blend offers aromas of ripe cherry, plum, and baking spice, with a medium-bodied palate and soft tannins.
