East Hernando Library Celebrates 20 Years of Service

The East Hernando Library celebrated 20 years of serving Hernando County on Saturday, February 1, was not the date but the event was held on a Saturday. The library, located at 6457 Windmere Road in Brooksville, invited community members to stop by their local branch from 12 to 2 p.m. During the event, parents could bring their children to get their faces painted or have Tony the Balloon Guy make them a custom balloon. The library provided cake and drinks, with Kona Ice also being on hand to provide refreshment.

The East Hernando Library originally located in the nearby Sunshine Plaza, where the Winn-Dixie is located, has been providing critical services to various members of the community for the past 20 years, noted Branch Supervisor Cristin Howell. “The Hernando County Library has had a presence here before this place was built. … We are excited to have been here this long. We offer lots of things to the public: computers, hotspots, [and] we have technology programming.” Howell said it is important to have a library near where everybody lives in the county. “So, over here, close to Ridge Manor, we have a lot of patrons who live over here that depend on us for using the computers, printing, [and] studying for school. We are excited to be a part of their lives in any way that we can be. We have a meeting room that frequently gets reserved for groups that need to meet. We offer a variety of services for our patrons.”

Looking ahead, the library is currently working in conjunction with another group on a master plan that will affect the next 20 years and beyond. As part of the process, they have been collecting online and paper surveys, “so if people want to give us their thoughts, this is a good time to do it as we build our plan,” Howell added. Starting Sunday, February 1, citizens can also visit any Hernando County Library.
