Dozens of Animals Found Dead in Floral City, Owner Arrested

A disturbing case of animal neglect has led to the arrest of a Floral City woman after dozens of animals were found dead on her property. According to Citrus County deputies, the suspect, identified as 52-year-old Karen Sue Johnson, was taken into custody on January 15, 2026, around 10:30 a.m. at her residence in Floral City.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office received a tip about possible animal neglect at Johnson’s property, which led to an investigation. Upon arrival, deputies found multiple dead animals, including dogs, cats, and other creatures. The exact number of deceased animals has not been disclosed. Johnson was arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty and neglect. She is being held at the Citrus County Detention Center.

The Humane Society and local animal control were called to the scene to assist with the removal of the deceased animals and to provide care for any surviving animals found on the property. The investigation is ongoing, and Johnson’s bail has not been publicly disclosed.
