Dozens of Animals Found Dead in Floral City, Owner Arrested

Citrus County deputies discovered dozens of dead animals at a Floral City residence on January 15, 2026, around 10:30 a.m. The property owner, 54-year-old Pamela Sue Smith, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office received a tip about possible animal neglect at the residence on Southeast 4th Avenue in Floral City. Upon arrival, deputies found numerous dead animals, including dogs, cats, and horses, on the property. Smith was taken into custody and transported to the Citrus County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is working with local animal welfare organizations to care for surviving animals found on the property. Smith is being held on $10,000 bond.
