A Citrus County animal rescue operation led to the arrest of a Floral City woman on February 9, 2024, after dozens of animals were found dead due to neglect. Deputies with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tip about possible animal neglect at a property in the 300 block of Southeast 4th Avenue in Floral City, around 10:30 a.m.
The investigation revealed that 53 animals, including dogs, cats, and small animals, had died due to neglect. The property owner, 52-year-old Lisa G. Miller, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty and neglect. Deputies said that they found evidence of poor living conditions, inadequate food and water, and lack of veterinary care for the animals.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about animal neglect or abuse to contact them at (352) 749-3111. The Humane Society and other local animal welfare organizations assisted in the rescue operation.
