Dozens of Animals Found Dead in Floral City Neglect Case

A shocking case of animal neglect has led to the arrest of a Floral City woman, deputies say. On January 15, 2026, Citrus County deputies responded to a report of animal neglect at a property in Floral City. Upon arrival, they found dozens of animals dead on the property.

The owner of the property, 45-year-old Jennifer Johnson, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty. Deputies say that Johnson had been operating an animal rescue on her property, but conditions were found to be unsanitary and inhumane. Many of the animals were found to be malnourished and dead, with some having died recently.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the case and is working with local animal welfare organizations to care for the surviving animals. Johnson is being held at the Citrus County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.

The case highlights the importance of reporting suspected animal cruelty and neglect. If you suspect animal cruelty or neglect, contact the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office at (352) 749-3111 or the Humane Society at (352) 372-2233.
