Crystal River Middle School Teacher Scott Chmura Named Outstanding Educator

The Fort Cooper Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution recently awarded Crystal River Middle School teacher Scott Chmura as the 2026 Outstanding Teacher of American History of the year in Citrus County. The award ceremony took place during their February general meeting at Citrus Hills Golf & Country Club.

Chmura, a dedicated educator and former drummer in the U.S. Army Band, was recognized for his passion for teaching American history and commitment to his students’ learning and growth. He constantly finds creative ways to keep his students engaged, whether it’s incorporating physical activities like pushups during lectures or facilitating thoughtful discussions that connect historical events to modern issues.

As a teacher in the Social Studies department, Chmura has been called a favorite teacher by students who profess how he made coming to school so much fun. His commitment to his students is evident in testimonials from his students and peers. The Outstanding Teacher of American History award is designed to recognize a notable, full-time teacher of American History and related fields, such as social studies, government, and citizen education in public, private, and parochial schools for grades fifth through 12th.
