Residents of Citrus County are speaking out about several issues affecting their community, including frequent water main breaks and road construction projects. On February 23, 2026, a water main break occurred at Roosevelt Road and Forest Ridge Boulevard in Inverness, causing a significant mess and disruptions to daily traffic. One resident expressed frustration about the frequency of these incidents, questioning why they are happening so often despite calls to 8-1-1 to mark utilities.
The resident also criticized the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) recent revamp of turn lanes through Inverness, which has limited the length of turn lanes and introduced concrete medians. This change is expected to cause traffic congestion and hinder emergency vehicles’ ability to navigate through the area. Additionally, residents have praised the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office for their diligent work in recovering stolen items from a local business.
Other concerns raised by residents include the neglect and death of dozens of animals, which has sparked outrage and prayers for the animals. Furthermore, a recent visit to Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River revealed that hundreds of swimmers were disturbing the sleep of around a hundred manatees, sparking concerns about animal welfare.
The issues raised by residents highlight the need for improved infrastructure and animal welfare in Citrus County. The FDOT’s road construction projects and the county’s response to water main breaks will likely continue to be topics of discussion among residents.
