With less than three months until hurricane season begins, local organizations and volunteers are getting ahead of the season by assembling and distributing specialized hurricane preparedness kits. Rebuilding Together Greater Florida partnered with Verizon and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to distribute 500 kits for local families at the Bucs Training Center, also known as the AdventHealth Training Center, in Tampa, Fla., on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026.
The event, which took place at 3:00 PM, featured Tampa Bay Buccaneers cheerleader Kimberly Romeo, mascot Captain Fear, and Tampa Mayor Jane Castor. The kits are designed to help families prepare for hurricane season, which comes on the heels of back-to-back storms, Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. The partnership aims to provide essential items and information to residents, especially those who may be vulnerable or have limited resources.
The kits include a variety of items to help families prepare for and respond to hurricanes. While specific contents of the kits were not detailed, they are designed to support residents in need. The event is part of a larger effort to promote hurricane readiness and provide support to local communities.
Residents in Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus counties can take steps to prepare for hurricane season by visiting the Hernando County Emergency Management website or the National Hurricane Center website for more information.
