Commissioner Adds Flock Vote to Agenda with Short Notice, Public Workshop at Risk

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A proposed agreement that would allow the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office to continue using license plate reader cameras in county rights-of-way was added to the Board of County Commissioners agenda on Sunday, just two days before Tuesday’s meeting. The agenda item, which was not previously publicly announced, has raised concerns about the rushed process and potential impact on a scheduled public workshop.

The public workshop, set for March 10, may be cancelled due to the sudden addition of this agenda item. Commissioner actions on the Flock Safety camera system have sparked debate among residents and officials. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has been using the cameras for several years, but the new agreement would formalize their use in county rights-of-way.

The Board of County Commissioners will discuss the proposed agreement during their meeting on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at the Hernando County Courthouse, 201 S. Park Ave., Brooksville. Residents can attend in person or watch a livestream of the meeting on the Hernando County Government YouTube channel.

For more information on the Flock Safety camera system and the proposed agreement, residents can visit the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office website or contact the office directly.
