Citrus High School’s weightlifting team dominated the Citrus County weightlifting meet, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams taking top honors. The meet took place on Saturday, March 18, at Citrus High School, located at 1325 W. State Road 44, Inverness, Florida.
The Citrus High School boys’ team, led by Coach Chris Bernhardt, scored a total of 62 points, far surpassing the second-place team, which scored 31 points. The girls’ team, also coached by Bernhardt, scored 38 points, outpacing the second-place team by 16 points. Bernhardt attributed the team’s success to their rigorous training and dedication. “Our team has been working hard all season, and it’s great to see their efforts pay off,” Bernhardt said.
The top lifters for the boys’ team were junior Jake Pfiffner, who lifted a total of 415 pounds, and sophomore Tyler Walker, who lifted 395 pounds. For the girls’ team, senior Emily Pfiffner led the way with a total lift of 235 pounds, followed by junior Lily Smith, who lifted 225 pounds.
The Citrus County weightlifting meet is one of several competitions that the Citrus High School team will participate in throughout the season. The team’s next competition is scheduled for April 1 at Lake Weir High School in Ocala.
