Citrus County Woman Arrested on 11 Felony Animal Cruelty Charges

FLORAL CITY, Fla. – A Citrus County woman who operated what she described as an animal rescue is behind bars after deputies say they uncovered mass neglect that left multiple animals dead and dozens more living in what investigators called inhumane conditions. Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Monday to a residence on East Oak Court following complaints about conditions at the property.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Jennifer Leigh Brooks, was arrested and charged with 11 felony counts of animal cruelty. Deputies found numerous animals living in filthy conditions, with some having died due to neglect. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office did not release the exact number of animals found or the number of deceased animals.

The investigation is ongoing, and Brooks is being held at the Citrus County Detention Center. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
