Citrus County Schools Superintendent Reflects on First Year

Citrus County Schools Superintendent Dr. Gregory T. Gibson is reflecting on his first year as head of the district, which began on July 1, 2022. During a recent interview with the Citrus County Chronicle, Gibson discussed his accomplishments and challenges.

Gibson, who previously served as the district’s deputy superintendent, was appointed superintendent after Dr. John J. Stewart retired. In his first year, Gibson focused on improving student outcomes, enhancing school safety, and increasing community engagement. He also worked to address the district’s budget constraints and staffing shortages.

Some of Gibson’s notable achievements include the implementation of new reading and math programs, which have shown promising results. He also established a new mental health program to support students and staff. Gibson credited his team and the community for their support and collaboration.

Looking ahead to the new school year, Gibson is committed to continuing his efforts to improve student outcomes and address the district’s challenges. The Citrus County School District serves approximately 15,000 students across 24 schools.
