The Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park in Citrus County is hosting two events. On Saturday, March 14, the park, in cooperation with Citrus County Audubon Society, will host a bird walk on Pepper Creek Trail at 8 a.m. An experienced birder from Citrus County Audubon will lead the walk. Participants should meet at 7:45 a.m. at the entrance to the park’s Visitor Center.
The bird walk is free and open to the public. Pepper Creek Trail is approximately 3/4 mile in length and follows along the park’s tram road. Participants can either walk back down the trail or wait and take the tram after the park opens. For more information, call the park office at 352-423-5600. Additionally, on Wednesday, March 25, the park will host a Manatee Adoption Event near the Underwater Viewing Area. Park Rangers and volunteers appreciate manatees all year, but on this day, they celebrate the conclusion of “manatee migratory season.”
During the event, attendees can view both resident and wild manatees up close, listen to an educational program, and “adopt” a manatee from Save The Manatee Club. The park is located on U.S. 19, and the West entrance is on Fishbowl Drive.
