Citrus County Council to Select President, Discuss School Policing

The Citrus County Council will select its president on Tuesday. This comes as the Citrus County Schools may return school policing to the Sheriff’s Office.

The council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 3:00 PM. During the meeting, the council will select its president for the upcoming term. Additionally, the council will discuss the possibility of returning school policing to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office. Currently, school policing is handled by the Citrus County Schools’ own police department. However, the Sheriff’s Office has expressed interest in taking over this responsibility.

The discussion about school policing comes after concerns about safety and security in schools. In recent years, there have been several incidents of violence and threats in schools across the country. Citrus County Schools have not been immune to these concerns, and the council’s discussion may be a response to these issues.

The Citrus County Chronicle reported that the council’s decision on school policing will be based on a review of the current system and input from the community. The Sheriff’s Office has stated that it is willing to work with the schools to provide a safe and secure environment for students.
